About

Welcome to The Dance Studio! We hope this web site will answer the questions you have regarding our dance program.

The Dance Studio was founded in 1986 to provide a high quality dance program for Northwest Austin. Most of the dancers have grown up in our studio from the age of three or four, and we are delighted to see them blossom into beautiful young dancers and fly off to follow their dreams. Many come back to teach and choreograph and the circle of life continues to grow as we learn from one another. We are delighted to have such a wonderful staff working with our students and passing on the knowledge and inspiration to continue the education and celebration of Dance as Art.

This dance program is designed to teach proper technique to all students from age three through adult. We recognize that dance is an art which requires discipline, technique, and creativity.

Preschool Philosophy

Our staff believes in teaching children correctly at a young age, as there are many potential bad habits they can learn during these early years. Social skills, listening, taking turns, sharing and good manners are all part of our program. We feel that these good habits will start them in a happy and positive direction in life, as well as dance.

Many younger students become bored with the technical part of dance. Because of this we also emphasize the fun and creative side of dancing. Students do not always realize what they are learning when it's a fun game; and they are more likely to enjoy themselves. It has been proven that preschool age children earn twice as fast and retain more of what they have learned with the use of visual aids. While a child is floating around the room as a butterfly with wings she does not realize that by not crashing into anyone she is learning "spatial awareness." Floor patterns, high and low movements, turns and jumps are all taught in similar manners. So what may seem like only a game is truly a learning experience.

Beginner to Advanced Dancers...

Learning the art of dance is an accumulative progression requiring discipline, technique and creativity. The beginner accomplishes the basics to progress to the next level.

We want our students' experience at The Dance Studio to be fun and positive as well as informative and educational. We know that most of our students will not grow up to be professional dancers, but we believe they should all be treated as if they were. Our goal is to develop knowledge and respect for the art of dance in a nurturing environment.
