The Dance StudioDance Spectrum |
History |
Dance Spectrum was founded in October 1991 as a children's dance company for the Northwest Austin area students over the age of eight. These young dancers gain valuable experience and professionalism from participating in a performing group while educating the public awareness of dance as an art through community-wide performances. The company has performed for many schools in Round Rock and Leander school districts as well as for festivals and charity events. Each performance adds to the dancer's sense of purpose and pride in their abilities and to their sense of community service. Dance Spectrum members have grown and developed both technically and artistically by working not only with their resident staff, but also with guest choreographers, teachers, and artists from around the globe. By working with an expanding diversity of talents and styles, several of the company members have shown promise as choreographers and been able to showcase their works through student and public performances. Now in their seventeenth season, Dance Spectrum continues collaborative performances promoting and supporting other artists and art forms as well as their own under new Artistic Director Amanda Booth. |

Guest ArtistsDance Spectrum provides members the opportunity to work with professional guest artists. Guest choreographers and instructors provide a valuable opportunity for students to experience different dance techniques and participate in original choreography. Summer workshops and master classes have given our dancers the opportunity to study under Stacie Wolle (Tapestry), Melissa Glouchkova (Tapestry), Libby Lovejoy, Kitty McNamee (Hysterica Dance Company), Annmarie Autere (University of Nice, France), Lyn Wiltshire (University of Texas), Jenny Johnston (Ballet Dallas), Adrienne Miller (American Dance Theatre of the Deaf), Kraig Patterson (Mark Morris Dance Group), and Myra Woodruff (Martha Graham Dance Company). Spectrum's works are created by its Director Lucretia Lomax; resident choreographer Svetlana Krylova; guest choreographers Randall Soileau (Austin Contemporary Ballet/Texas Youth Ballet), Lisa Bowers, Keith Clifton, and Rhonda Miller of Los Angeles. In addition, Dance Spectrum is noted as a consistent venue for local choreographers including Camille Adams, Dawn Baker, Andrea Beckham, Toni Bravo, Dawn Davis, Melanie Huskey, Tracy Sadler, Emily Shapiro, Tracey White, Katherine Wolff, and Nicholas Young. By working with a diversity of talent and styles, several of the company members have shown promise as choreographers and been able to show their works through student and public performances as well including the Young Choreographer's Showcase (YCS), which began in 1997. Spectrum AlumniCharter members and alumni have been great role models through their dedication, enthusiasm, and inspiration. Those who have returned to perform, teach, choreograph, and mentor our younger dancers include Erin Akin, Amanda Booth, Lauren Fakhreddine, Kate Gnarra, Erica Hiebner, Keith Kregel, Kristen Lantrip, Elizabeth Norris, Stacey Lloyd, Melanie Wood, and Lee Pierce.
